New ID Cards and Ways to Engage

tsmith474

Our new ID cards are here! Several projects have already received their ID cards, and we're working on getting the rest set up. We've got some exciting new ways to help keep us safe with the new ID cards.

Everyone will have their ID card on the job site so they can be easily identified and everyone will know who they are. You can also access your training records with the QR code on the ID card. We'll make sure everyone is trained and authorized to operate equipment, for instance.

It's a requirement that you're trained on each piece of equipment you operate. This training must include the operators manual, pre-use inspections, safe operation, and a qualified person observing you operating the equipment safely. Additionally, the training has to be specific to each type of equipment and each make and model. Now the supervisor can scan your ID badge before you operate a piece of equipment and know right away if you've been trained and observed to operate that particular piece of equipment. If you don't have any training, they can provide it.  The QR code will include all training records, like confined space and NFPA 70E certifications.  We're excited about this because we'll be able to easily access training records and make sure you're trained to do your job safely. Training to do your job safely is one of your rights under OSHA.

The back of the ID card has two exciting elements too. One is a QR code for reporting. Scan the QR code with your phone and it'll bring up a drop down menu so you can choose what to report. There are a bunch to choose from

  1.  Ethical Violation

  2. Hazard

  3. Observation

  4. Safety Recognition

  5. Subcontractor's Daily Report

  6. Suspicious activity.

You'll be able to answer questions and quickly report directly to management anything you have concerns about, observations you've made, or something new like a safety recognition. In addition to reporting hazards and concerns, we now have the ability to report good stuff too. When you see someone do something right and safely without being told to. Someone might find a way to overcome a dangerous hazard and make things safer.  Tell us about these things. Now you can tell us directly with your ID card QR code. You can quickly write us a note, take a picture, and say thanks. No matter what kind of report it is, we'll follow up. We'll also send the safety recognitions to the safety committee for acknowledgement. Additionally, we track trends and keep track of projects and safety recognitions. Another of the rights you have under the OSHA Act is the right to report hazards and unsafe conditions. This is another way to allow you to that and also tell us when your team mates and your supervisors are doing things right and safe.

On the back, there's a reminder why you should be safe. Your ID card will ask you why you need to go home safe every day. You'll see those reasons on the back of your ID card every day.  We're thrilled about these new developments and how we can all work together to make our projects safer and make safety a true core value.
