Communication about hazards comes in many forms, like our JHA briefings, our installation plans, the way we watch out for each other and remind each other of procedures and processes, and our discord continuous improvement server. We also have two other ways of communicating hazards. Safety Data Sheets and tool operator manuals.
Every project has a list of chemicals and products you may be exposed to. Please feel free to ask to see the log anytime in the construction office. In this log, you'll see what's on site and what safety data sheets are attached to it. This safety data sheet tells you what the hazards are with the product, how to use it safely, what to do if there's a spill or exposure, and precautions you should take. You can access the safety data sheet on your phone by going to elightinformation.com and clicking on Safety Data Sheet. Using the search function, you can find the sheet you're looking for based on the project log. You should check the log and know what's on site, as well as the SDS so you know what you're working with.
We also have operators manuals for every tool we supply. Operators manuals are also on elightinformation.com. You can find it on the page for the tool operator's manual. We audit the tools we show as being issued to the project. The supervisors inventory and inspect the tools and send the report to the corporate logistics manager. In this way, we know what tools are on the site so we can make sure the operators manual is on the website and the tools are in good working order. As part of E Light's policy, all employees have to read the operators manual before using a tool for the first time. Don't ever use a tool unless you've read the operator's manual. Just because you read the manual for a Milwaukee Screwgun doesn't mean you've read the manual for every Milwaukee Screwgun. Read it once and refer back to it periodically if you need to. On the website, you'll find these operators manuals.
Power tools you bring on site must have an operator's manual on site for reference, even if you've read it before. Every tool needs an operators manual on site, either in paper form for personal tools, or on the website for employees to access if issued by the company.
Make sure you know what the hazards are, read the SDS and tool operator manuals and make safety a core value every day. Don't forget the four primary causes of accidents...Convenience, Overconfidence, Ignorance, and No Time (COIN) and how to prevent them....Best Practices, Always Aware, No Shortcuts, and Knowledge is Power (BANK). No more COIN, only BANK.
